What is this Python project?
Pandas_Alive is intended to provide a plotting backend for animated matplotlib charts for Pandas DataFrames, similar to the already existing Visualization feature of Pandas.
It facilitates a wide range of animated plots including bar charts, line charts, pie charts, bubble charts, and geospatial charts. It also has the ability to animate multiple, related charts at once, which is an extremely nice feature and can be used to create animated dashboards.
What's the difference between this Python project and similar ones?
- Built upon matplotlib (as opposed to libraries like Plotly)
- Monkey patches functionality onto Pandas dataframe to mimic existing static charting functionality
- A very shallow learning curve for people new to python
- It doesn't feature interactive controls but this helps make it simple
- Arbitrary subplots are possible, as opposed to Plotly where subplots are only possible by faceting a data dimension
