Raise an error when passing None authentication values in Python

When using a client that gets value from the environment, it's very easy to end up with None in api_key, which gives a pretty error about bytes-like object down in the HTTP code. This raises an error earlier.

• If your PR is targeting a particular programming language, @mention the technical committee members, so they are more likely to review the pull request.
